Fishing in Poland
 Fishing in Poland is fantastic. There are hundreds of lakes and
rivers and unlike in the UK, they are nice and quiet.
You will need to
buy a licence and this unfortunately cannot be purchased in advance
(however most family run hotels will be happy to arrange this for you). It is not too
widely known over there, but you can buy one in most post offices and
you will need to buy one for the district you are fishing in. As a
tourist you will not need to take the exam that Polish fisherman have to
take.
The licence costs about £20 (for lakes) and £30 (for lakes and
rivers) for the entire season. Most lakes are free to fish, with just a
small handful that you actually have to pay for.
The licence runs from December to December so best not buy one in
November, and you would probably need to be ice fishing then anyway!
You will find in Poland most of the people fishing are fishing for
keeps. They eat the fish. Especially the carp. There are a few private
lakes well stocked with carp that are free to fish on the condition you
buy what you catch. Catching carp in double figures is not uncommon, but
to get really big fish plan for a good few days of fishing. As far as we
can find there are not the restrictions you would find in the UK
regarding barbed hooks, leaded weights and the use of landing mats, and
many of the people fishing will be using either floats of spinners for
pike. If we find any hot-spots we will let you know!
