plaże in Poland

plaże in Polandplaże in Poland??? That is what a lot of people ask. To those who have not visited the coast of Poland, or even know that Poland actually has coastline, then you are missing out. It may now be what springs to mind when you are planning a beach holiday, but those who have visited or know others who have, have very different opinions.

Poland not only has miles upon miles of golden sandy coastline, but some of the biggest sand dunes in Europe (in Slowinski National Park on the Baltic coast, close to Leba and Debki). That topped with hot summers (well above average for Europe) makes Poland an ideal beach holiday destination.

The plaże do tend to get breezy, but this can be a welcome relief from the hot sun and windbreakers are in abundance. There are plenty of water sports to choose from and Poland has some of the best windsurfing in Europe, both on the Baltic sea and on the many lakes (such as Lake Zarnowieckie near Debki).

The Baltic coast near Gdansk has beautiful white, wide plaże and is highly recommended for a holiday. Almost all plaże in Poland are accessed through a short walk through protected pine forests - not only does this smell beautiful but it also keeps building right on top of the beach, thus keeping the beach "wild" and unspoilt. Most plaże in seaside towns have sections guarded by lifeguards - so you can swim in safety.

The seaside "town plaże" get comfortably busy during the height of the summer, but as beautiful plaże run throughout Poland's coastline, you will never be more than a short stroll away from total peace and tranquility.

Best of all, you will not be bothered in Poland by various "beach salesmen" - the only things which can be bought from passing sales people is ice cream, drinks, pastries and corn-on-the-cob!

The Baltic sea itself is wonderful to cool down in. It is very shallow (under 5/6 foot) for about 100 meters out to sea, which not only makes it very safe to bathe in but allows the sun to warm it up to a 'just-right' temperature.

The food is great in beach side restaurants, and you can pick yourself up a 2 course meal including drinks for 2 people for under £12. The fresh fish is worlds better than fish and chips in any English resort I have visited (not too hard to beat though!) - and served in a far healthier way!

The tourist season runs roughly from May to September, peaking in July and August.
