Tuam company to open factory in Poland
The Tuam-based company JFC Plastics will make major strides into the markets of central and eastern Europe this Saturday with the opening of a state-of-the-art factory in Poland.
The opening of this new factory near Warsaw is the culmination of four years of expansion into eastern European markets by the Tuam firm, which also has factories in the UK and Holland.
John Concannon, managing director of JFC, is heading a group of company executives as well as other industrial and political leaders from Galway who will be present in Poland for Saturday's official opening ceremony.
Among those in attendance will be Minister of State for Horticulture and Food Noel Treacy, the Polish ambassador to Ireland, Witold Sobkow, Ireland's ambassador in Poland, Thelma Doran, and Declan Ryan, Enterprise Ireland's eastern Europe markets manager.
Members of Galway County Council, the Galway County Enterprise Board, the Tuam Chamber of Commerce, and other business interests in Tuam will also be on the trip to Poland. It is hoped that this trade delegation may also be able to forge further business ties between Tuam and Poland during the trip.
It is envisaged that JFC's Polish factory will also be a major customer for some of the smaller plastic products made at the company's Tuam plant which has also been expanded in recent months. Larger products, such as bottle banks and fuel tanks, which are more difficult to transport to customers in eastern Europe, will also now be manufactured at the Polish factory.
The JFC factory in Poland has been built on a green field site in a new industrial estate about 20 kilometres outside Warsaw. It is close to one of the major motorways leading to northern Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, which should be a big boost for transporting product from the factory to those areas.
