Poland could get green light for Euro zone in three years
Poland should meet the fiscal criteria for joining the Euro zone in 2007.
A new government strategy envisages lowering the budget deficit to 2.7% in three years time. These prospects give Poland the green light for joining ERM2, which is a waiting room preparing new entrants for the Euro zone. Members are required to keep their currencies within a range of +/- 15% of the central standard. Deputy president of the Central Bank (NBP) Krzysztof Rybiński said Poland would be ready to join ERM2 in 2005, however, in order to do so the Central Bank would have to stop the appreciation of the złoty, which until now it has been reluctant to do.
