Poland Tries to Woo Saudi Businessmen

Interest is growing among Saudi businessmen to trade with Poland after its entry into the European Union in May this year, observed the leader of the Polish delegation, Arkadiusz Krezel who was on a four-day visit to the Kingdom.

Leading a 15-member delegation, Krezel held talks with Assistant Minister of Defense and Aviation Prince Khaled ibn Sultan, undersecretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Salman, Minister of Transport Dr. Jabarah Al-Seraisery and key officials of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

"By virtue of Poland's membership in the EU, Saudi investors in Warsaw could find a larger international market for their products and services," said Krezel adding that Saudi entrepreneurs could profitably invest in his country in industrial projects, chemical industries, real estates and tourism.

Two-way trade between Poland and Saudi Arabia stood at $115 million during the first nine months of 2004. Polish exports to the Kingdom were valued at $75 million while its imports of petrochemical products, sheep skin and carpets are estimated at $40 million. Its exports to the Kingdom include, steel, construction materials, glass, food and agricultural products, chemical and rubber products and electronic items.

Two Polish companies have applied for local licenses for joint ventures with Gosaibi Computer Land Company and Saudi Polymex Company in the Eastern Province. "Negotiations are under way with Al-Zamil Company for a joint venture in building shipyards," Krezel said.

In addition to the traditional exports to the Kingdom, Krezel said he intends to promote transport planes including helicopters, small passenger aircraft and more steel products. The Kingdom has shown interest in the Polish "Skytrack" aircraft which could land in any weather condition on rough terrains, he added.

A Saudi-Polish Economic Forum was held at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry where a large number of local businessmen were present on Sunday.

"The delegation was a practical follow-up of the high-level visits exchanged between the two countries," said the ambassador of Poland, Adam Kulach.
