Poland's Jobless Rate Unchanged in Nov.
Poland's unemployment rate was unchanged at 18.7 percent in November, the economy minister said Monday, contrasting the figure with a traditional autumn rise in jobless numbers.
Poland has the highest jobless rate of any European Union nation, but has seen it decline gradually this year from 20.6 percent in January to 18.7 percent in October.
The fact that the rate stayed constant in November indicated that "we are dealing with a slow (improvement), but still an improvement on the job market," Economy Minister Jerzy Hausner was quoted as saying by the Polish news agency PAP.
The government aims to keep unemployment below 19 percent through to the end of the year, Hausner said.
Some 2.9 million people are out of work in the nation of nearly 39 million people - the largest of 10 mostly former communist countries that joined the EU in May. Source: Forbes.com |
