Bollywood goes to Poland

The Poles are getting a taste of Bollywood with the release of Karan Johar’s movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in Poland.

‘Sometimes Sunshine and Sometimes Rain’ is the polish title of the movie that stars a host of Bollywood stars – Shah Rukh Khan , Amitabh Bachchan , Jaya Bachchan , Kajol , Kareena Kapoor , Hrithik Roshan and Rani Mukherjee .

The film is being promoted big time in Poland to attract viewers. Posters of the movie are visible all over the capital Warsaw and the media coverage, through TV commercials, is fantastic. Besides this, Polish FM radio stations are constantly playing the songs from the movie, particularly, ‘You are my Sonia’ and Shawa Shawa.

So far the audience response to the movie has been very encouraging. According to Stanislaw Tokarski, a specialist on India at the Polish Academy of Sciences, the movie buffs are drawn to theatres because “the people have never seen an Indian movie with dances, songs and absolutely melodramatic scenes. Their curiosity is leading them to movie theatres, rather than anything special.”

K3G is the first Bollywood film with Polish subtitles to be exhibited in five places in Poland simultaneously. Eighteen other Bollywood films have been selected for Poland release this year.
