Big rise in passenger numbers to Poland thanks to EU and low cost flights
The number of airline passengers flying to Poland has increased by almost 25% so far this year.
It's thought the main reasons for this are the emergence of cheap airlines and EU accession. However, calculations by Rzeczpospolita indicate that the no-frills airlines constitute less than 10% of the market. Experts predict the market will follow the general EU trend and is therefore expected to exceed 30% in a relatively short period of time. According to estimates from the cut price airlines the sector will transport more than 1.2 million passengers to and from Poland in 2004. It's thought that the number of people flying with the budget carriers may double next year. A number of local airports are benefiting greatly from the growth of the no-frills airlines. One example is Pyrzowice airport located near Katowice in Silesia, which has already serviced twice as many passengers than it did last year. (Source: http://www.wbj.pl/?command=article&id=24343) |
