10 million Visa cards issued in Poland over last three years
Three years after the number of cards issued by Visa exceeded 5 million, the number passed another milestone—10 million, as of June 2004.
However, according to Visa Polska’s general manager, Malgorzata O’Shaughnessy, that’s still only halfway toward popularizing this form of payment in the country. In the
12 months preceding July, the value of transactions conducted with the use of payment cards amounted to $23.5 billion (z³.84.0 billion), up 24 percent year-on-year, while the number of transactions exceeded $395.4 million (z³.1.41 billion), up 19.3 percent year-on-year. The number of non-cash transactions increased 27.2 percent, while their value amounted to $3.9 billion (z³.13.96 billion), up 25.2 percent year-on-year. In Poland, the share of purchases made with the use of payment cards is 2.8 percent, while in the United Kingdom it is 20 percent, and in Iceland 75 percent.
